In normal times, Fire Prevention Officers with the County of Prince Edward would be visiting local schools to talk to children about the importance of fire safety, escape plans, fire drills, etc during fire prevention week.
But these are not normal times.
In order to reach children, FPO Mike Branscombe has gotten creative and partnered with McDonald’s Restaurant in Picton.
On Friday, 250 bags with activity books, crayons, mini pencil crayons, a foam frisbee, a magnet, a reusable straw, a cup cozy and more which will be handed out with happy meals. Branscombe reminds local residents the provincial burn ban is being enforced in Prince Edward County.
Branscombe mentioned in the last dozen years he had only written three tickets but in the last month, he has written over 50.
“The message is getting out because when the ban first started we were running all the time and now it’s not very often,” added FPO Greg Gorsline.
