It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Picton. Thanks to a tireless volunteer, Picton Main Street is looking green and spruce.
Arlene Wright does it all, and in any kind of weather.
On a cold and dreary Tuesday last week, with a deluge was threatening overhead, there was Ms. Wright soldiering along with a ladder, shovel, axe — and enough greenery to deck ten halls with Christmas cheer. on behalf of the Picton BIA
“I had to use the ladder to get up into the planters and break up the soil because it had frozen the night before,” she told this gawking Gazette rep as the final touches were put on the last of eight large planters running from the parkette at the corner of Main and Washburn streets all the way to Shire Hall. Ms. Wright works on behalf of the Picton BIA, but really, she does it for all of us.
Seasonal decor makes the walk or commute bright along the County’s main byway courtesy of a dedicated community member who always wants the town to put its best foot forward.
Not just a decorator, Ms. Wright and her husband Frank source their greenery themselves, thanks in part to a kind landowner who allows the pair to scour the woodlot for the appropriate accoutrements.
“Frank and I took the utility trailer out and found it all. The blue spruce comes from our home but we were able to find white pine, white cedar and spruce, birch limbs and red dogwood thanks to our friend,” she added.
And now Picton has a little bit more of the Christmas stuff, thanks to Ms. Wright.
