For the past few years, a group of local residents have ushered in New Year’s Day with a dip into the bracing winter waters of Lake-on-the-Mountain.
But for the first time this year, it was $10 to take a New Year’s Day dip — and $20 to watch the proceedings from shore.
“There’s a group of us that go out into the water periodically in the winter months, but January 1st is our annual day. Last year, I said, we should turn this into a fundraiser,” said Susan Howson.
Ms. Howson, along with Lady Bugyra, Linda Thurston, and Danielle Chretien spread the word that the 2025 edition of their annual tradition would benefit the community. The event was replete with warm camp fires, hot chocolate and even costumes to add frivolity to the scene of bathing suit-clad swimmers dipping their toes and other body parts into the frigid open water.
Over 20 brave souls entered the water, raising $660 for the Hub Family and Child Centre.
The Polar Plunge continues next year. Perhaps consider joining in the spine-tingling fun.
