In 2023 we’ve had 39 consecutive years of holding a Tag Day.
Community Care volunteers transform little paper tags into money to support local programs for seniors. The total raised at the two-day event in 2018-before the pandemic – the best ever. The goal was $4,000 and that was exceeded by over $1,700 to bring the 2018 Tag Day total to $5,702.09.
2019 Tag Day realized over $5,000.00 as well. And then the pandemic hit. In 2020 we held a “virtual” event and the total was just over $1,000 and in 2021 the total was a mere $400. In 2022 we were hoping to breathe new life into this important fundraising event and we set a goal of $4,000.00 that we exceeded!
This year the target is $5,000.00 which is still less than in 2018 but, like many things that the pandemic changed, our tag days are slowly coming back to pre-pandemic levels.
Please don’t just walk by the volunteers with donation boxes around their necks. These volunteer taggers will be stationed throughout Picton, Bloomfield, Consecon, Rossmore and Wellington, taking shifts canvassing in each location.
Other volunteers have been working diligently to cut, punch and put strings on the tags. A big thank you to each and every volunteer who took on this tedious task. It was also volunteers who called other volunteers to schedule coverage at all 20 locations on the specified days. There will be volunteers in the office counting and rolling the coins in wrappers. Yet others will drive (or walk) around to pick up from the canvassers and to provide encouragement. Our thanks and appreciation goes out to the businesses that allow our volunteers to stand in front of their location.
The efforts of all of these caring volunteers, including the staff members who help make the arrangements, truly shows what can be accomplished through team effort and commitment.
Can you help us with Tag Days? There are a few spots left so if you’d like to be a volunteer tagger please let us know right away so we can add your name to the list. This task entails signing up for a 2-3 hour time slot on Tag Day. Call the office at 613-476-7493 or email [email protected] to sign up. If you can’t help us this year by tagging then please consider making a donation onlineat www.communitycareforseniors.org , on Tag Day or any day, really.
Working together we help seniors live at home.
