There promises to be a lot for people to do to enjoy the upcoming holiday weekend in Prince Edward County.

Sophiasburgh’s recreation committee will host its annual winter carnival Saturday at the Demorestville Town Hall.

The events start with a pancake breakfast from 9-11 a.m. with meals available for $5 for adults and $3 for elementary school children. There will also be family skating starting at 9.

The annual Battle of the Blazes hockey tournament takes over the rink at 11. Blaine Way will offer horse-drawn carriage rides from noon to 3 p.m. Inside the Town Hall, there will be a vendor craft sale from 11-3:30, featuring a Demorestville Women’s Institute bake sale and children’s games, crafts, and stories, courtesy of the Picton library branch and friends of the recreation committee.

From 11:30-5, the Sophiasburgh food truck will offer $2 chili dogs or bowls of chili and $1 drinks. The day concludes with a fish fry with fish provided by Kendall Dewey and prepared by the Demorestville volunteer firefighters. It will be $15 fo a two-piece meal and $8 for a one-piece meal of pickeral, coleslaw, fries, bun, and drink.

Also Saturday, the South Marysburgh recreation board will be hosting a Family Fun Day, which replaces its traditional winter carnival. From 10 a.m. to noon at the Milford Town Hall, there will be an opportunity to make sock puppets and knit a giant scarf. There will be hot dogs and homemade soup available between noon and 1:30 p.m. The day closes with the popular family bingo from 2-4 p.m. It will be $1 per card all afternoon with a maximum of three cards per player.

Also in Milford, Prince Edward Community Theatre’s production of Norm Foster’s farce Sinners opens Saturday at Mt. Tabor

On Monday, the Friends of Wellington Museum will host a pancake breakfast at Highline Hall from 8-10 a.m.

Later, the Friends of Sandbanks and Sandbanks Provincial Park will host their Family Day Snowfest from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Maple Rest Heritage House. Weather permitting, there will cross-country skiing, tobogganing, sledding and other outdoor activities, a roaring bonfire, and a chance ot sample chili and hot chocolate while watching a musical jam session.

Both events are part of the County Museum’s Flashback February Heritage Week celebration, which kicks off at Parsons Brewery tomorrow at 2 p.m. and runs until Feb. 25.
