A Prince Edward County man is one of 20 Bay of Quinte residents to be presented with a King Charles III Coronation medal.
Bay of Quinte MP Ryan Williams presented the Coronation Medals at a ceremony in Belleville February 18.
South Bay’s Sam Lanfranco was recognized for his role as a co-founder of Habitat for Humanity Canada.
MP Williams described Mr. Lanfranco as a “Global humanitarian and academic who continues to drive education and development initiatives.”
Created to mark His Majesty King Charles III’s coronation on May 6, 2023, the medals recognize outstanding individuals of all ages and from all walks of life who made a difference in their communities.
“Every one of today’s recipients has gone above and beyond. Through public service, volunteerism, or leadership, winners demonstrate the very best of what it means to be Canadian,” MP Williams said. “They have given their time, their energy, and their talents to making our communities stronger, safer, and better for future generations. And that is something worth honouring.”
A York University Professor Emeritus, Mr. Lanfranco has served for a half century at the local, national, and global levels. He is also a founder of the Hamilton-Wentworth Creative Arts, and of the Ambedkar Centre for Justice and Peace, and the Society for the Advancement of Science in Africa (SASA), for both of which he still works.
He is also the President of the newly formed Internet Integrity Taskforce (IITF)
Closer to home, Mr. Lanfranco is a board member at Doctors Hospital (Toronto), the Canadian Society for International Health, the Milford Fair, and Treasurer for the Friends of the Mariners Park Museum.
