From the hack to the house, there will be a rocking good time at the Prince Edward Curling Club this February.
The County’s favourite fun-time Curl-a-Thon bonspiel in support of the new hospital returns to the sheets February 8 for its third installment.
The fundraising event has raised over $110,000 for the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Back the Build Campaign.
This year’s event will run from noon to midnight, rather than all night, but that doesn’t mean there will be any less fun. There will be live music throughout the day and evening in the lounge, plenty of food and beverages, and prizes.
“There were some challenges filling those graveyard shifts at 3 and 4 a.m., so this year, we are turning it into more of a Bonspiel Challenge-type event and using all our sheets to the greatest extent that we can. We are aiming for 160 curlers.”
“We’ve got a handful of musical acts lined up throughout the day, our kitchen will be open and we are hoping to have even more of a community feel.”
In addition to raising lots of money for the new hospital, the Curl-a-Thon has raised the Club’s profile. A good number of neophyte curlers come to to the sport through the Curl-a-Thon, signing up for Learn-to-Curl and becoming Club members.
A pair of introductory and refresher nights will be held January 24 and 31 in the lead up to the event. Everyone is welcome to stop by the club February 8 and check out some great curling. Or some not so great curling, as the case may be.
