DE VRIES, Jane (Jantje) of Belleville  
Strong, independent, determined (stubborn!), intelligent, one-of-a-kind. Predeceased by parents Auke and Sijtske (Swart) De Vries and stepmother Pat. Predeceased by husbands Bert Veenstra and John Stenvers. Loving mother of Brian Veenstra, Linda Poole, Barbara Veenstra (Stephen), Theresa Brennan (Frank), Arlene Black (David), daughter in-law Denise Veenstra. Survived by siblings Ruth (Frank Westerhof) and Sid (late Helen) and sister-in-law Sylvia. Predeceased by brothers: Arnold, Allen (Johanna) and John. Coolest ‘Grandma Jane’ to Joshua, Brittany, Nathan, Sarah, Luke, Sam, Erica, Ian, Jenna, Andrew, Holly and Megan. Great Grandma of Owen, Alex, Donovan, Noah, and Charlotte. Fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews. A big thank you to Cindy and Chrissy from Helping Hands Homecare Support and the staff at the Prince William Apartments and Chartwell Bayview Retirement Residence for the wonderful care our ‘spicy’ mom received. Our mother had the most interesting and full life and enjoyed every minute of it. She immigrated to Prince Edward County in 1948 from Friesland, The Netherlands. She relished the independence of the voyage by ship and was captivated by travel her whole life. Mom was a grand adventurer; hiking, biking, kayaking, skiing (which she took up in her 50’s), camping with her grandchildren. Mom was a world traveler and her most memorable trips were to India and the Arctic. She thought nothing of driving the Cabot Trail in a motor home and her best investment was her travel van. Mom was fearless. Mom was solely responsible for the close relationship her grandchildren had with her and with each other due to the family ski and camping trips she organized for many years. We always had a blast! Mom and John spontaneously purchased a building on Ashley Street, Foxboro in 1977 and converted it into the Foxboro Food Market. With the great success of that store and support from the community, in 1986 Mom and John built Foxboro IGA (now Foxboro Foodland) which Mom sold in 1993. Education was of extreme importance to Mom. Through hard work, she achieved an Accounting Diploma in 1975 and, upon retirement, returned to college to complete a 2-year Travel and Tourism Diploma; combining her love of travel and learning. Mom was also fascinated with technology and investments; both of which she took classes in. Her sewing and needlework are works of art. Mom loved the news and debating world events was a great pastime. Annoyingly, she was generally right. Cremation arrangements have been made with the John R. Bush Funeral Home, 80 Highland Ave. Belleville (613-968-5588). A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday November 21st, 2022 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Gerry Masterson Thurlow Community Centre at 516 Harmony Road, Corbyville K0K 1V0.
