Despite limited access to training facilities, PECI’s downhill ski team outdid itself in the school’s first ever crack at the Bay of Quinte Downhill Skiing competition this month.
The Panther squad —Josh McGill and Kallen Vancott and freshman Carson Camp — took Level 1 Gold at the Bay of Quinte event in Batawa February 7.
PECI shredded Eastside and St. Theresa’s to top the podium at Bay of Quinte, as best of the five teams competing.
Mr. Camp came fourth in the Giant Slalom while Mr. McGill had a fifth place finish in the Slalom event. The club finished fourth at the Central Ontario championships a week later, again at Batawa. Mr. Camp once again posted PECI’s best result, coming ninth in the Giant Slalom event.
“We are small but mighty!” PECI coach Jocelyn Buggie told the Gazette.
Meanwhile, Remy Dullard-Krizay and Marlie Wright, for Nicholson Catholic College, made great runs, all the way to the All Ontario meet at Osler Bluff Ski Club in Collingwood.
Ms. Dullard-Krizay picked up an individual silver in the Bay of Quinte Combined Events and the NCC team competed in both the slalom and giant slalom events at OFSAA, taking sixth and seventh place respectively against a dozen schools across Ontario.
