The tragic summer of 2025 in Prince Edward County continues. A child has drowned at Sandbanks Provincial Park.
Members of the PEC Detachment of the OPP are investigating the death of a three-year-old.
This is the third death by drowning in Prince Edward County in under a week.
On Thursday July 24, 2025, at approximately 5:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to Sandbanks Provincial Park after a child went missing while playing with family members in a shallow area of water.
The child was located and recovered by bystanders prior to the arrival of emergency services and subsequently transported to Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital by Hastings-Quinte EMS. Despite resuscitation efforts, the child was pronounced deceased.
The child’s identity is not being released out of respect for the family’s privacy.
Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue, Hastings-Quinte EMS, and Sandbanks Provincial Park Wardens supported the Prince Edward County OPP in response to the incident. The OPP would like to thank members of the public who provided assistance.
