A celebration 20 years in the making will be taking place at Prinzhaven Farms Aug. 8.
Phil and Selena Prinzen and their daughters Maria and Paige are welcoming the public to their dairy farm at 1176 Gilead Rd for the annual PEC Family Farm Fun Night.
Formerly known as the Prince Edward Holstein Club’s annual Twilight Meeting, the Farm Family Fun night serves as the evening soiree of local agricultural community where farmers, family, friends and neighbours gather to enjoy a celebration of local fellowship ‘down on the farm.’
The Farm Family Fun night is set to return to Prinzhaven Farms for the first time since 2011.
Selena Prinzen explained 2019 commemorates 20 years since the Prinzen family started down their path of dairying together.
“Phil and I wanted to be able to mark that milestone by hosting the Farm Family Fun night and we are looking forward to welcoming everyone to our farm,” Prinzen told the Gazette.
The annual 4H calf show, the bouncy castle for children, a loonie raffle and a barn tour that includes a chance to grade a class of dairy cows are part of the schedule of events and the evening also includes the roast pork and beef supper prepared by Taylor Custom Meats of Roseneath, ON as well as Gay Lea chocolate milk.
The Prinzen family milks 78 dairy cows and has installed a new heifer barn and milking system since last hosting the Farm Family Fun night nearly a decade ago.
The Prinzhaven herd was graded as not only the best in Prince Edward County in 2017 according to Dairy Herd Improvement Canada but as one of the elite herds in all of Ontario.
“We really hope the public comes and visits our farm see how much we value our cow’s care and comfort,” Prinzen added.
Tickets for the event have been frozen at 2018 prices: $17 for adults and children 5-12 are $8.
Tickets are available at the door and meal services commences at 6:30 p.m.
