On Sat, July 6 come out and do your best downward dog at the first ever PEC Yoga Festival being held in the historic Crystal Palace.
A festival pass is $75 and includes seven yoga classes, soul speak sessions, Vinyasa & Vino event, OM Outdoor Market and Rise & Shine yoga on the beach.
“The $75 was the early bird price but we decided to make it our flat rate and the response to that has been really great with about 100 people confirmed so far,” Christine Rozak, organizer of the event told the Gazette. “People know that to get access to seven classes, all of the vendors and the speaker series that this price is a great value for what your getting and where it’s taking place.”
Registration starts at 8 a.m. with a diverse range of yoga styles for all levels in the afternoon and finishing off the day with vibes & Vinyasa & Vino from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. and a cash Bar from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.
There will also be Soul Speak Sessions from experienced wellness experts on a variety of topics being hosted at the historic Bluebird House.
The OM Outdoor Market which opens at 8:45 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m., will host 25-30 local businesses and new vendors all passionate about everything yoga.
The market is open to the public and entrance fees will either be a cash donation or a non-perishable food item going towards the Picton Food Bank and The StoreHouse Food Bank in Wellington.
“We’re also supporting Alternatives for Women and donating a booth to them,” Rozak expressed. “We’re going to help them raise awareness and have a raffle fundraiser with 100 per cent of the ticket sales going back to Alternatives for Women.”
Teachers for the event are:
Megan Marie Gates, a Picton native, is co-founder and director of Wild Heart Healing Arts here in the County. Gates will be opening and closing the festival.
Dallas Delahunt runs a yoga studio out of Kingston and will be doing a vinyasa in the late afternoon.
Kathryn Flynn lives in Ottawa, teaches yoga and is known for weaving together philosophy, anatomy and Ayurveda (yoga’s lifestyle science). Flynn will have her session in the late morning.
Jaffer Hussain is a Toronto-based yoga teacher and wellness advocate and will be hosting the Vibes & Vinyasa & Vino session.
Justin Haley teaches a variety of daily yoga classes in Toronto as well as workshops, international retreats and hot stone yoga therapy. Haley will be having his session in the afternoon.
And Carrie Taylor a local who teaches HypnoBirthing and yoga and also does private classes in the Bay of Quinte. Taylor will have her session around noon and on July 7 at 8:30 a.m. will be doing the Rise & Shine yoga on the beach.
“We really hope this will be an annual tourism event,” Rozak stated. “We intent for the Crystal Palace to be the home for the festival so I have that booked for years to come and always around the same time of year.”
Festival pass holders will be notified of the location for Rise & Shine yoga on the beach.
