Once again this year, the PEC Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Craft Group has made a significant
contribution to the Adopt-A-Child/Keep Kids Warm program. The Craft Group presented the
OPP PEC Detachment with 215 sets of hats and mitts. These hand knitted items will be
presented along with new boots and outerwear to local families that need a little help keeping
their children warm this winter.
The Adopt-A-Child/Keep Kids Warm program was started 37 years ago in 1987 and helped
clothe 118 local children. This year, the group expects to help about 1,500 area children.
Adopt-A-Child is a registered charity that receives no guaranteed funding, and operates solely
on donations from the public. Today the partnership includes Quinte Broadcasting, Belleville
Police Service, the Township of Stirling Raydon, Central Hastings OPP and Prince Edward OPP.
Families are registered from Prince Edward County, Belleville, from the north to Madoc and
Marmora and to the east in Deseronto.
Parents who registered can pick up their child’s warm new outerwear through Thursday November 7th at the PEC OPP Detachment, 569 County Road #1, between 9 am and 4 pm.
