Seniors’ Active Living Fairs help to connect seniors and their caregivers with others in their community. These fairs help seniors learn about key issues that affect their health and well-being. These fairs are held all over the province. 2018 was the first year that the County Seniors Centre offered an Active Living Fair. It was held in Wellington in November and was attended by over 200 seniors. In 2019 we held another fair with over 400 attendees.
Then the pandemic hit and we moved everything online. But now we’re back with an in-person Seniors Active Living Fair on Thursday, November 2 at the Wellington & District Community Centre. Mark your calendar now so you don’t miss this! This free event includes free lunch (while supplies last), a free ride with County Transit (call early), free entry, free exhibits, free door prizes, free presentations, free entertainment, free refreshments (a big thank you to our sponsor Paul Massey, owner of Tim Hortons in Picton & Wellington for the Timbits!) You really should plan to attend for the full day from 10am to 3pm because if you don’t, you’ll miss some of the great things happening.
The Fair will enhance accessibility and awareness of programs and services available in the area. There are almost 50 exhibitors from the community showcasing the services they offer, as well as presentations and demonstrations. The schedule of presentations is still being confirmed. So far, the list includes: The Library Orchestra with Don Hinde; Naturalist Terry Sprague will talk about bird identification 101; a rep from the Ministry of Transportation will make a presentation about winter driving; the Stroke Co-ordinator from CCSH will outline the signs of stroke; Fire Prevention Officer Mike Branscombe will tell us all about fire safety for seniors; and more!
The bus from County Transit will be available for tours. Have a look at it so you know what is offered through this local transit program. We’re in talks with Prince Edward County Fire & Rescue in hopes that they will bring the aerial ladder truck for attendees to have a close up look at. There truly is something for everyone. To find out the full schedule of presentations and entertainment check the website at www.communitycareforseniors.or
This event is free and open to the public. Call the Community Care office for more information about the fair at 613-476-7493. Get active, make friends, be well.
