Cooking with the Basic Shelf is the name of the free cooking classes available through Hastings Prince Edward Public Health. These classes offer: hands-on cooking with registered dietitians; a friendly inviting environment; a place to share a meal together; a way to find new confidence in the kitchen; and nutrition education.
Participants will meet once a week for six weeks to discuss food-related issues such as meal planning and practice hands-on preparation of meals from the Basic Shelf Cookbook. The recipes from this cookbook are all designed to use one list of low cost nutritious ingredients. The recipes are quick and easy to make, requiring little cooking experience and equipment. This program is most helpful for people living on a limited income and/or people with limited cooking skills.
A series of six classes will be held on Tuesday Mornings at the Wellington United Church starting on May 22 to June 26. The classes are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. And advance registration is required. For more information or to register call the Healthy Life Line 613-966-5500 ext. 610.
