June is Seniors’ Month in Ontario. 2018 marks the 34th annual Seniors’ Month. This year’s theme, “Now’s the time to start something new,” highlights how aging does not prevent people from leading fulfilling lives. Seniors continue to contribute to the community and everyone can all benefit from their wisdom, friendship, and experience.

Seniors’ Month is an annual celebratory tradition in which the contributions of seniors are acknowledged and honoured throughout the province. Each year Community Care holds events in celebration of Seniors’ Month. 2018 marks the tenth year that Community Care has offered a Wii bowling league. On Tuesday, June 19 the bowlers held a social to celebrate the accomplishments of those in the league who bowled for the previous 10 weeks. New bowlers are welcome to sign up for the next session.

Tomorrow is tag day throughout Prince Edward County when volunteers will be “selling” tags to raise money in support of programs to help seniors live at home. Tag day is held on Saturday, June 23 in the LCBO locations only.

On Monday, June 25, there will be an open house from 1-3 p.m. for people to drop in and find out about services and volunteer opportunities. We’ll have the coffee on!

Community Care is here for you every day, however, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and we invite you to stop in and “start something new”. Sometimes asking for and receiving a small amount of help can make a big difference to being able to stay living at home in the community.

And, if you have a few hours to spare, we can help you discover the satisfaction that comes with giving your time as a volunteer. Services include meals, transportation, housekeeping, yard work, home maintenance, foot care, support for caregivers, reassurance, driving course, social and recreational activities. Call 613-476-7493 for more information. Check our web site. Come in and talk to a staff member. If we don’t have the service that you require we can help you find what you need. Call today.
