This is Part 2 of a two- part column. Community Care has a few ideas for the seniors, and others, on your list this Christmas.
If you would like to support Community Care’s efforts to reduce and reuse you can purchase gift certificates in $5 denominations to be used at Community Care’s Thrift Shop located at 153 Main Street in Picton.
Get the gift certificates at the Community Care office at 74A King Street in Picton. Make that thrifty shopper on your list very happy this year.
Give yourself the gift of maintaining your health by signing up for the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) Seniors’ Exercise & Falls Prevention program. The program is starting again in January and will be held in the office of Community Care located at 74A King Street in Picton. To register or to get more information please call the VON at 1-800-301-0076, extension 5350.
Beginner and continuation Tai Chi classes are also held regularly at Community Care. New sessions start in January for both beginner and intermediate. There are many benefits to Tai Chi and you can find out first hand by signing up. Call 613-476-7493 to register and don’t delay because there’s lots of interest in this program and space is limited.
Give yourself the gift of longer life by volunteering. Yes, you read that right. It’s been proven by many studies that volunteers live longer, happier, healthier lives. We have a spot at Community Care for you to give some time to the programs and services that help seniors live at home. Call 613-476-7493 to start the conversation.
We are particularly looking for people to do reception and to deliver Meals on Wheels and to work on the reception desk. Orientation is provided. Get involved, you’ll be glad you did!
Come on out and enjoy lunch with old and new friends on Wednesday, Dec. 20 at noon at the Christmas Seniors Luncheon Social in Milford. We hold these events throughout Prince Edward County and gift certificates are available for the seniors on your list.
The menu in Milford features, homemade soup, roast turkey and dressing, gravy cranberry sauce, coleslaw, potato and vegetables, Christmas pudding, bread and butter, coffee and tea all catered by Bill Grieve, the chef with Wheel House and Occasions Catering. The cost is $1 per person. Reserve your place by the Tuesday prior at noon by calling 613-476-7493. This event is sponsored by Community Care and is held in Milford Town Hall. Take-out meals are available. This meal can also be delivered to housebound seniors who live near Milford.
And as always, if you are interested in learning more about services to help seniors live at home, please give us a call at Community Care.
