This is Part 1 of a two-part column. We recently received an e-mail from someone in another city asking how to purchase gift certificates for our programs. The person wanted to give this as a gift to their parent who lives in the county. Maybe the seniors on your list would enjoy gift certificates for the Seniors Luncheon Social events held regularly throughout Prince Edward County. This is an opportunity to make new friends or to meet with old friends over a scrumptious meal.

Give the gift of friendship by attending a Seniors Luncheon Social on Wednesday, Dec. 13 at noon in Allisonville Hall or Dec. 20 in Picton. The meal is a Christmas menu of homemade soup, roast turkey and dressing, with all the trimmings including Christmas pudding. Bill Grieve, the chef with Wheel House and Occasions Catering, provides a scrumptious meal not to be missed.

The cost is $10 per person. Reserve your place by the Tuesday prior at noon by calling 613-476-7493. Take out and delivery is available, too. Another opportunity to socialize is at the Christmas Wrapping and Social event on Dec. 14 in Picton. Spend a couple hours wrapping gifts that have been donated to Community Care for distribution to seniors this holiday season. Let us know you’re coming by calling 613-476-7493. Christmas refreshments will be provided.

At Christmas or at any time of the year you can honour someone by making a donation to Prince Edward Community Care for Seniors in their name. A card acknowledging your donation will be sent to the recipient. Drop by the office at 74A King Street in Picton or call 613-476-7493 to arrange this thoughtful gift.

You can also give the gift of care to a senior on your list. Gift certificates can be used for a new or favourite service from Community Care for Seniors including Meals on Wheels®, Foot Care, transportation and more. Call Community Care at 613-476-7493 to get started.
Another gift is that of remembrance. The words of Lexi Berndt resonate with people, like my family, who are grieving the loss of a loved one and feel the loss acutely at Christmastime.

We talk about him because we’re proud. We talk about him because we remember. We talk about him because, even though he’s not physically with us, he’s never far from our minds. We talk about him because he’s part of us, a part that we could never forget. We talk about him because we love him still and we always will. Forever. Nothing will ever change that.
Remembering Ron (Mac) MacDonald who lived every moment of his life from the day he was born August 2, 1934 to the day he died on Dec. 9, 2012. With love from Marilyn, Debbie & Rick, Jessica & Dez, Marley, Eli, Leah, Laura & Bob.
