Last week was Ontario Public Library week, and we joined public libraries across the province in celebrating. All of the branches of the library were buzzing with activity.

The Consecon branch was fortunate enough to have volunteers Bev Marr, Peggy Ritchie and Marg Trompour prepare a display on the history of canning in the county. Marr brought in several canning jars from her personal collection which were over 100 years old. Everyone enjoyed the displays and we all appreciated the effort put forward by our volunteers.

On Saturday, Oct. 21 at 11 a.m the Brighton Brass Quintet, with Greg Hendrickson, performed at the Consecon library. People came from all areas of the County to enjoy the music, coffee and snacks. The quintet consisted of two trumpets, one french horn (which I happened to play for numerous years), one trombone and one tuba.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to a great Ontario Public Library Week across the county. We are already planning the rest of the calendar year and are packing in a diverse array of activities for everyone to enjoy.

On Saturday Oct. 28, the village of Consecon will be hosting Haunting in the Hamlet. Stop by the Consecon Branch Library between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. with your most ghoulish costumes for a free special photo opportunity.

Step in front of the green screen and strike a pose with the “spooktacular” digital backgrounds. We’ll take your photo and e-mail it to you once the special effects have been applied!  Remember, don’t wear green or you will be a floating head only! (Unless that’s the look you are planning!)

Friday, Nov. 3 at 2 p.m, we will have author Ken Murray speak at the Consecon branch. The Consecon and Ameliasburgh branch book clubs as well as the Wellington branch club have been invited to read his work and attend the talk, It’s also open to anyone who is interested in attending. Come out and support our Prince Edward County talent and enjoy some coffee and treats.

Sunday, Nov. 19 we will be hosting our sixth annual craft sale at the Consecon branch as part of the festive celebrations in the village. Santa Claus will be at the Masonic Lodge as will R.J. the Balloon Dude.

At the library we will have several vendors, a book sale and numerous raffle draws. The proceeds raised from the raffle ticket sales will go to the Consecon branch restoration fund. The renovations are continuing with definite results. The lobby is almost complete and work will commence on the Crown of Thorns soon.

As you may know, the Consecon branch is housed in the former Holy Trinity Church and the historic tower needs repair. It is hoped the cast iron bell in the tower will be removed and placed for all to see.

On Sunday Dec. 3, we will have Christmas in the Village in Ameliasburgh It runs from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. The library will be open and we will set up our green screen to add a festive effect to photos, offer coffee, tea and snacks. Our craft will be popcorn garland with cranberries.

It will be a busy time for the Consecon and Ameliasburgh branches of the County of Prince Edward Public Library, and we can’t wait to see you at the library! If there is anything you would like to see, hear or do at the library please let us know and we will do our best to achieve it.
