At the Prince Edward County Public Library, we are thrilled to be partnering with Shatterbox Theatre and other Prince Edward County businesses for our upcoming fundraiser, Cue the Night.

On July 27th, 2019, from 7-11 p.m. at the newly renovated Armoury Mess Hall, you will be presented with the opportunity to experience the Library, live theatre, music, delicious food, all for just $35 Custom cocktails will also be available for purchase.

County Confectionery, home to some amazing kettle-popped popcorn, is a small family business run by Ty Lester and Lindsay Machell, 5th-generation Prince Edward County farmers.

“We gladly, and wholeheartedly support the fundraiser for the Prince Edward County Library expansion and Shatterbox Theatre. The PEC libraries are a huge part of our everyday lives. Shatterbox is also a new favourite date night.” says Machell.

Kinsip House of Fine Spirits, PEC’s only distillery, is offering up a unique cocktail curated especially for Cue The Night.

“We’ve created a signature cocktail for the evening that harnesses the summer season featuring all things County in a glass,” said Kinsip owner Jeremiah Soucie.

For those that don’t drink alcohol, Kinsip is crafting a special “mocktail” so that everyone can enjoy their offerings.

Sam Hirst of Cue the Funk is playing double duty, as both musical director for the show and keyboardist for the band.

“Cue The Funk is a 9-piece band that burns up the dance floor with its funk and disco grooves. Our shows are kinetic, and the band owes much to musical theatre. Cue The Funk is excited to be on board for Shatterbox’s spring musical, and to reinterpret the score in their signature way,” writes Hirst.

During Cue the Night you will also get the chance to relive past Shatterbox shows and see a preview of the next season. Shatterbox Theatre debuted with Constellations by Nick Payne and was followed by Armstrong’s War by Governor General Award-winning playwright Colleen Murphy.

The Small Room at the Top of the Stairs by Canadian playwright Carole Fréchette, which just closed its run at The Regent in May, was the opener for the 2019 season.

Shatterbox Theatre’s Studio Series featuring Tony Award Winners Art and Red rounds out their 2019 season.

In Yasmina Reza’s Comedy Art, three friends square off over a white canvas.

John Logan’s Red, recipient of 6 Tony Awards, follows Master abstract expressionist Mark Rothko in the two years following his landing of the biggest commission in modern art history.

Pat Larkin steps into Rothko’s shoes in this searing portrait of an artist’s ambition and vulnerability.

Capping off the theatrical performances is Shatterbox’s announcement for their opening production of 2020.

Touted as having one of the most electrifying scores on Broadway, this bold production hits the stage next spring.

Megan Hutton of Instant Rivalry will be making her musical theatre debut in the medley.

“We have a really exciting lineup and are thrilled with the caliber of talent and support we are receiving from our community. We always strive to present unique and thought-provoking theatrical experiences. Cue The Night offers us a chance to perform in an intimate venue and to mingle with the audience,” said Georgia Papanicolaou, artistic director and cofounder of Shatterbox Theatre.
