LAWSON, Jean Ellen Cumming (nee Rosie)
December 20, 1933 to July 6, 2023
Peacefully at PECMH on Thursday July 6, Jean Ellen Lawson passed away at the age of 89. Both she and her family were so happy that she was able to spend her final year living full time with her two children after moving to Picton from Barrie, a place she loved dearly and visited regularly for 32 years where her son lives. Jean was born in Toronto on Dec 20, 1933, one of 4 children by Mary and Robert James Rosie (both deceased). She married William “Bill” Lawson also of Toronto and they remained a close couple for 56 years when he passed away in 2009. Her two brothers Donald and Robert (deceased) and sister Ina were a close-knit family with a proud Scottish heritage from their father who came over on a boat from Orkney Islands, by himself, at the age of 17, beginning his new Canadian life and then his family several years later. Jean’s “peachy”, witty and humorous personality lit up a room. She had a passion and love for baking, travelling to the sunny beaches of Florida, fashion, all the family dogs, and most of all being with friends and family in many gathering places across the province and family vacations in different provinces. Her sweet personality and sense of fun will be greatly missed. Jean is survived by her daughter Lori Jean Lawson and her son Scott William Lawson (partner Micheline Cox). She was the beloved grandmother – ‘Gma’ – to Katelyn (JohnRoss), Liam, Gavin (Kayla) and Connor…and 7 family dogs! One of the biggest thrills in her life was to become a great grandma to darling Adelynn, aged 2. Jean is also survived by her beloved sister, Ina, brother Donald (Marydel), sister-in-law Lillian, and many nieces and nephews. Jean will be cremated and a life celebration will occur in the near future. The family would like to thank all the wonderful nurses and physicians who cared for Mom in her final weeks, providing a respectful, friendly and supportive place that allowed her comfort and dignity. Donations can be made to Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation.
