The Ontario Venture, McKeil Marine’s newest addition to its cargo fleet, steamed into County waters Tuesday night. By Thursday morning, Captain Lozon and crew were taking on 30,000 tons of wheat and soybeans.
The newly retrofitted vessel measures 144m from bow to stern and is 23.34m wide. The Venture came through the Panama Canal three weeks ago, destined for its next life as a Great Lakes cargo vessel. Hamilton harbour is home.
The Ontario Venture took on wheat and soybeans at the
new Parrish &
Heimbecker terminal on Picton Bay last week.
It was the first ship to leave
Picton Bay loaded with local
produce in over half a century.
Anthony Kulbacki, President, P&H Grain Division said the longstanding Canadian Agribusiness is thrilled to mark the arrival of the first boat at its new Picton terminal – a significant milestone for agricultural shipping in Prince Edward County and eastern Ontario.
“This facility enables us to connect local producers to international markets while reducing their transportation time and expenses,” Mr. Kulbacki said in a statement to the Gazette.
“This new site demonstrates our ongoing commitment to investing in infrastructure that directly benefits the farming community, and we’re excited for the opportunities ahead as we partner with producers and stakeholders in the area. It’s an exciting week for everyone involved, and we look forward to seeing the terminal’s positive impact for years to come.”
