Looking at the Wentworth plan for Benson Park in the Picton Gazette, I am dismayed that the majority of the park will become a desert of wood chips and rubber tiles.
Has Wentworth done their research and observed how the park is used? As a quiet, shaded green space close to busy Main Street people go to eat their take-out lunches or drink their coffee at the picnic tables. A Tai Chi group uses the the grassed area several times a week. Children can kick a ball there and Canada Day events were enjoyed by many on the grass.
To address police concerns, I can see to the end of the park clearly from Ross Street, can’t they?
Yes, there is a need for an updated children’s playground, especially a shaded playground where the equipment doesn’t get too hot to use on a summer afternoon. There is also a need for more benches and young succession trees to replace the old silver maples.
I hope there will be more community input before a decision is made to redo Benson Park.
