Because daily newscasts are endlessly bleak, it is particularly rewarding when we happen upon positive individuals who bring happiness into our lives.
I recently had the pleasure of meeting such a young local resident who helped to extricate me from a common predicament. I was parked in a small lot beside Picton Physiotherapy. I had just received treatment for a painful knee and back problem.
When I reached my car, I was unable to open the door sufficiently to enter due to a second vehicle who had parked too closely. I hobbled into Subway to hopefully find the car owner. I was greeted by an employee who was quite concerned about the situation but the car owner was not there. I painfully proceeded up Main Street from shop to shop with no luck.
When I returned to my car, I discovered the young gentleman from Subway was looking for me. After checking the space carefully, he decided that he could squeeze in and back my car out for me. I happily handed the tall, slim young man my keys. He was successful in his attempt and I gained access to my car. I thanked him profusely for his assistance to a stranger. He humbly accepted my appreciation and said that he was only too happy to be of help. He did not expect any reward.
I have been fortunate to meet many Pictonians who have been helpful, gracious people. If space allowed, I would list them all and be happy to note that the list would be long. Thoughtful, special people are generally unsung but they are essential glue not only in our lives but also in establishing the tenor of a ‘pleasant’ town.
Thank you all.
Sincerely,
Janet Bingham
