Some will have noticed that the County has drafted new event bylaws for the use of private and public properties.
Since moving to the County over 15 years ago both my wife and I have volunteered for multiple causes. With that experience in mind I reviewed these documents. I found 27 pages of rules, a 15 step checklist involving notifications of multiple contacts/agencies, an unspecified fee structure and a draconian set of fines. I believe this will impede most organizations as they try to recruit volunteers.
I shared these observations with the Committee of the Whole last month.
Next step for the County is to start public consultations. If volunteering is something important to you, I urge you to participate and provide feedback.
