Unmarked moorings pose a serious safety hazard

Boating in the County is a wonderful way to spend the summer, until you get too close to shore.  During this year’s adventures, I have noticed many unmarked mooring tie outs, which tend to blend in well if you don’t know where they are.  There are moss covered balls, black tires —  tires that have not been used in years and are now on their sides. This is extremely dangerous.  I think we all know what could happen if a boat, jet ski, or skier hit one, a horrible, entirely preventable accident.  Safe boating is something we all need to be concerned about, especially those with moorings.  Paint your moorings in bright colours, or add a bright flag, clean off the moss, and please, if you have not used them in years and do not plan to, remove them completely.
Everyone will thank you.  Safe boating,
Sharon Sibthorpe
