I usually enjoy reading through the local papers to catch up on events occurring in the County, but I find myself frustrated with, dare I say it, the carelessness shown in the Feb. 9 edition of the Picton Gazette. Perhaps it is because of my age, but I have always felt that journalism, and the assembly of a written missive such as “Canada’s oldest non-daily newspaper” would be concerned about the material presented.
I find, on the front page an article about the local leaders in business for 2022 (Local leaders in business recognized at Chamber’s 2022 Excellence Awards) being recognized at a presentation on January 26, 2022, either really old news, or inattention to what was being written as this event perhaps took place in 2023.
Then, following the story, I was told to “See Chamber, page 13”. When I went to page 13, there was no continuing story – I had to flip through the paper to find remainder of the story on Page 7.
I was interested in reading about the rare Thunderstorm event headlined on page 5. While the story, under the headline about the presentation to the Rotary Club related to the Community Foundation was informative, I failed to find any commentary related to the headline.
I also find it misleading that your physical mailing address is still listed as 267 Main Street in Picton, where I see a papered-over store front. Perhaps the company still owns the building, but the reference, to me, suggests one can go to this location and speak to a representative of the paper.
Hopefully you will spend the time necessary to read my written thoughts, and perhaps, ensure proof-reading (an old concept) be a part of the publication of the paper.
