A host of projects that includes improving washroom facilities, rehabilitating the viewing platform and enhancing and expanding the parking lot are included in a $400,000 investment by the Province of Ontario into Lake-on-the-Mountain Provincial Park this summer.
The Ontario government announced they were investing the capital to build, maintain, and revitalize the infrastructure at Lake on the Mountain Provincial Park, which will improve the visitor experience and boost tourism in the east end of Prince Edward County.
Much of the work has been completed.
“Lake on the Mountain is a rare and spectacular geographic feature, and its beautiful views draw guests from near and far,” said Todd Smith, MPP for Bay of Quinte. “With high traffic, there is wear on park infrastructure. Our government is renewing spaces like these to ensure visitors can fully enjoy this special place for years to come.”
With the investment, Ontario Parks was able to refurbish the water intake servicing the park’s washroom facility, resurface and expand the parking area, and improve the viewing platform overlooking the lake.
The project is part of a $41.7-million investment over two years to upgrade and maintain infrastructure across the Ontario Parks system. Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks David Piccini said the effort is another way the government is expanding recreational opportunities for Ontario families, boosting tourism, and strengthening the protection and health of wildlife and the environment.
“In 2022, Ontario Parks recorded more than 12.1 million visits, and overnight camping grew by nine per cent over 2021, which goes to show the increasing demand for our beautiful provincial parks,” said Piccini. “Upgrading infrastructure is one of the ways we’re working to improve the visitor experience, so they have a memorable and positive time while at our parks, returning with their friends and family for years to come.”
