Ronald Bernard Markland
1930 – 2021
(Retired PEC Roads Department)
It is with the utmost heartfelt sadness we announce the quiet exit into heaven, on Sunday, March 28th, 2021, surrounded with the love of his children and granddog, in his 91st year, at his home on Bethel Road, where he wanted to be. “Father of Ten” has joined his beloved wife Joan, his oldest daughter Judy and youngest son Dennis. He leaves behind his children Dorothy Vandenburg (Dennis), Ronald Jr. (Mary), Jerry “Pork” (Brenda), Rick (Nila), Jackie, Cheryl, Bryan “Buck” (Barb), Tim (Laurie). Cherished Poppa of Chris, Jamie, Jeff, Darcie, Ashley, Tammy, Jason, Norman, Tyler, Bobby-Jo, Nicole, Justin, Marissa, Britain, Kade and Jonathon, and of course his granddog Abby. Great Poppa of Willow, Jake, Anna, Jayden, Cooper, Peyton, Montgomery, Reydon, Donovan, Kalysia, Brycen, AJ, Max, Oakley, Olivia and Harley. He will be missed by his siblings, in-laws, other family and numerous friends. Predeceased by his parents Bernard and Genevieve Markland. He will be missed for his quiet spirit, and big heart. Not only did he raise 10 children, but he grew the largest garden in the county, and pressed enough apples in his cider press for the county to enjoy. Come the beginning of fair time to the end of season you always knew where he was to be found, not a horse pull to be missed and never forgot to visit the taffy booth for the happiness of his wife. Ron was a proud employee of Prince Edward County Roads Department for 47 years, as soon as the first snow flake fell, his hat and boots were ready to go when the call came whether it be 8 at night or 2 in the morning. Pa you will be missed, but we know you are waltzing the floors of heaven with the love of your life, but still allowing time for Mom and Den Den to shop. A Private Family graveside will be held at Cherry Valley Cemetery honouring Pa’s wishes.
