McCaw, David (Dave) John
It is with broken hearts we have to make this announcement: David (Dave) John McCaw, of Prince Edward County, passed away suddenly but peacefully on June 26, 2023 at his home at the age of 77, engaged in what he did best – a home repair project. Born on April 6, 1946 in Picton, Ontario, he was the beloved son of the late John and Shirley (Cole) McCaw. A graduate of the University of Waterloo, Dave held a degree in Electrical Engineering. His intellectual curiosity and practical approach to life were evident in his career, hobbies, and personal life. He could fix anything, a trait born out of patience, careful observation, and an unyielding commitment to understanding the problems in front of him. Dave had a long-time love for sailing, feeling most at peace when he was out on the water. His fondness for Jeeps was more than just a hobby; a true reflection of his love and knack for problem-solving. Dave also loved a good game of cribbage or Euchre displaying his tactical mind and subtle competitive spirit. Possessing the rare gift of being a great listener, Dave was patient, kind, and always a calming presence no matter the situation. Dave is survived by his loving children, Trevor (Sally), Glenda (Joey) and Darryl (Lori), who will forever cherish their father’s wisdom. He was a beloved grandfather to Graeme, Gabi, Cassidy, Kate, Andrew, Liam, and Julian, who knew him as an insightful mentor. Dave held an unbreakable bond with his siblings, Rosemary (Josef), the late Neil, Mel, and Dan (Wendy); their cherished weekly meals were a testament to the close-knit ties and enduring love they shared for each other. He also leaves behind his partner in life, Sally Ackerman, who will deeply miss the time they spent together, whether it was renovating his house or simply enjoying each other’s company during Golden Hour on the best screened-in porch in the whole world. Their shared projects and peaceful moments are evidence to their bond, a love that unfolded in sawdust and serene sunsets alike. The loss of Dave creates a void that cannot be filled. But his lessons of patience and resilience remain a testament to his life. As we remember him, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with family, adventure, and the satisfaction of work well done. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 12th at the home of Sally Ackerman
