Prince Edward Collegiate’s production of Tina Fey’s musical Mean Girls features Serenity Fraser as Cady Heron and Alaura Miles as Regina George. Both are natural stars, and each gives an astonishing performance in this not-to-be-missed production. You’ll be saying you saw them when. The two would-be prima donnas battle it out for school supremacy by belting it out in song, accompanied throughout by a stellar supporting cast and Music teacher Andrew Cranshaw.
After an inspired first act of highschool hostility, various ensembles in this 19-part musical weave in and out, exploring harmonies and dissonances. This accomplished production is a lively and engaging delight. Students, who range from grade 9 to grade 12, started rehearsals with Drama teacher Matthew Sheahan six months ago, in October of 2024. The singing across the entire show, supported by Mr. Cranshaw on piano, is superb. Expertly choreographed scenes turn into fluid set pieces, the supporting players raised to real showmanship. Everyone here clearly loves what they are doing — and that’s infectious.
