Have you ever thought of writing your memoirs? Would you like to learn how to tell your story – either for publication, or to share with your children or other family members?
The Picton Branch of the Library will host two upcoming talks to get you inspired to put pen to paper. Our thanks to the Government of Canada for funding this series.
Roz Bound is a poet, long-time Friend of the Wellington Branch Library, and author. Roz Bound’s recently published book Aging Consciously, Dying Awake, is a memoir in story and poems where she reflects on aspects of her life experience to see behind illusions and traditions and envision an evolving path forward. Drop by the Picton Branch Library on Wednesday, February 22 at 2 p.m.
In an interactive talk, Roz will share her writing journey and the intrinsic value of leaving one’s story behind, for family, community, and even the cosmos. “The past grounds the present and informs the future.” Roz lives in Wellington, has facilitated Open Floor there for local writers for 23 years, has an MFA in Creative Writing, and loves supporting writers in their creative process.
On Wednesday, March 1 at 2 p.m., also at the Picton Branch Library, hear from members of the Circle of Six. This group came together as a writing group which ultimately lead to the publication of their book Storied – Chronicles by the Circle of Six, winner of the Canada Book Award. Discover how this group of writers came together to share their stories, culminating in the publication of “Storied: Chronicles by the Circle of Six”. This “writers helping writers” talk will be focused on helping you tell your own story by learning about writing memoir and self-publishing.
Plans are also underway for a workshop on “how to” record oral histories which will be of interest if you have ever wanted to interview an older family member or neighbour to preserve their memories for future generations. This will culminate in a session at the Prince Edward County Archives which will invite people to book a time to share their memories to be preserved at the Archives.
