A talented songstress is performing a collection of Carole King and James Taylor classics at the Regent Theatre Friday in support of the Back the Build campaign.
You’ve Got a Friend, a classic Carole King and James Taylor music celebration, comes to the Regent Fri., July 19 at 7:30 as a fundraiser for “ Back the Build,” the new County hospital campaign.
You’ve Got a Friend covers the music from Carole King’s famous Tapestry album as well as many of James Taylor’s classic songs from throughout his extensive career.
“Miss Emily,” aka Emily Fennell, a County native and fulltime singer and songwriter performing internationally, delivers on the Carole King solos making use of the beautiful grand piano on the Regent stage.
On the James Taylor side are veteran talented musicians Doug Reansbury, Jamie Campbell, Zak Colbert, Ken Hall, Duncan Holt and James Wannamaker to fill out this superb night of music.
Carole King wrote songs for many artists, including James Taylor’s famous hit, You’ve Got a Friend.
King also went on to record it on her own album Tapestry.
“I grew up on my mom’s Tapestry album so when I was asked by this great group of musicians to join them to complete this music celebraton we’ve now been offering for about two years, I was thrilled,” Miss Emily said. “Every show we’ve done has been great fun and the audience are right there with us, occasionally singing along on too.”
And Fennell has a personal connection for this show.
Monica Alyea, just retired Chair of the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation and the show’s producer, reached out to her daughters to help make this a family affair.
Hilary Fennell will also be pitching in by performing emcee duties.
“ My sister Hilary and I were born in the Prince Edward County Memorial hospital with Dr. Kolabinki delivering. This will be fun way to support “Back the Build” and I hope to see all my Prince Edward County people at the Regent Friday night, ” Miss Emily added.
