Noxon House Flower Farm has christened Jules the Moose.
Flower farmer Shawna Pereira is decorating her gardens at 403 Bloomfield Main Street with fresh cut dahlias, hydrangeas, and garden roses. And Jules.
The moose is a holdover from Toronto’s 2000 Moose in the City public art display. 326 life-sized moose sculptures decorated by local artists dotted the city. Some of the fibreglass pieces are still ‘roaming’ Toronto, while others ended up in the hands of private collectors.
Ms. Pereira found Jules on Facebook Marketplace. It was decorated with plastic, stick-on jewels, and the owner was named Jules.
“It all kind of fit,” Ms. Pereira says with a laugh.
For the moose makeover, the Ms. Pereira commissioned Chrissy Poitras of Sparkbox Studio fame. She scrubbed Jules down to the base and found a set of antlers from another local artist.
Ms. Poitras’s murals can be seen all over Prince Edward County. Several of them are inside Bloomfield’s village limits, including at the Town Hall’s public washrooms and Angeline’s Inn. Jules’s flowing, flowery pastel design is unmistakably Poitras.
In addition to the farm stand, Ms. Pereira said she hosts small private dinners, bridal brunches and wedding party photos in the flower field. She plans on expanding to pick and sip evenings — a dusk harvest complete with a glass of wine.
