An 88-year-old motorist is recovering from minor injuries after his truck careened towards the edge of the escarpment overlooking Glenora Saturday morning.
Prince Edward OPP confirmed that shortly after 9:00 a.m. members of the detachment responded, alongside Fire and Rescue and Hastings Quinte Paramedic Service, to a report of a single vehicle that had driven over the cliff at Lake on the Mountain Provincial Park.
Upon arrival, first responders found the motorist had driven through the parking lot and through a fence, before heading down the steep embankment that overlooks the Reach, only coming to rest in some rocks just before the cliff’s edge. The vehicle’s sole occupant was trapped inside.
Firefighters secured the vehicle and extricated the driver via a rescue basket. The driver was transported by paramedics to Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital.
“Thanks to the quick thinking by members of the fire service, the vehicle was secured and driver assisted out of the vehicle,” noted OPP Communications and Community Services officer Aaron Miller.
