Two new Summer Loops will connect the County on weekends starting June 27.
One of the loops links Wellington, Bloomfield and Picton. The other runs between Bloomfield and Belleville. The new service runs to September 7.
The buses are designed to take people to the farmers markets and to the theatre, out to dinner and drinks, or shopping in Belleville. Stops include Wellington Rotary Beach, Base31, the Eddie, and Picton Main Street.
Kids 13 and under ride free. They are an excellent option for visiting families who want to do some sightseeing, shopping, dining, and take in a movie or a show.
The service runs late on Friday and Saturday evenings, and from late morning to dinnertime on Sundays.
Residents and visitors can travel between three historic Main Streets with all the shopping and restaurants and accommodations they offer. The bus will even take you to the beach.
The new Summer Loops are funded by $35,000 of the municipal portion of Municipal Accommodation Tax and private partners, including Base31, StayPEC, The Eddie Hotel and Farm, The Royal Hotel, and Wander the Resort. Buses will stop at Wander and at The Eddie by request.
“The summer loops are funded by tourism revenues — but designed to benefit everyone,” said Transit Coordinator Vincent de Tourdonnet
“County staff consulted business owners, young people, families, car-free residents, alcohol-serving businesses and business associations, and heard a clear message. Transportation to and within Prince Edward County is a challenge.”
“Residents want to get to work between towns, or just have a safe, easy way home after having a drink. And we needed better weekend options for everyone.”
Starting on July 2, tickets and transit information will be available at The Regent Theatre in Picton, which will be open daily from 10 am to 10 pm in a special Visit the County, County Transit, and Picton BIA partnership. The Regent is busy expanding its concessions and activating its spacious lobby to interest drop-in visitors all day and into the evening. Trained staff will be on hand to answer questions and sell transit tickets.
