For the sixth time in seven years, a local grocery store has been recognized through a provincial government program that honours retailers that promote and support produce grown in Ontario.

Andrew & Emily’s NoFrills store on Loyalist Parkway just west of Picton won a 2017 Foodland Ontario Platinum Retailer’s Award earlier this month.

The Foodland Ontario Retailer Awards Program is the produce industry’s premier competition recognizing excellence in display, promotion of Ontario foods and support of Foodland Ontario.

The store offers provincially sourced produce during the winter months and utilizes local growers in the summer and fall seasons.

“I think it’s great and it showcases to our customers the appreciation we have for fresh Ontario products and products grown right here in Prince Edward County,” store owner Andrew Januszkiewicz said.

Customers can find produce grown by local producers including Wayne Channel, Hagerman Farms, Dan Langridge, Ed Taylor, Mill Creek Farms during the growing season as well as Vader’s Maple Syrup every day.

“It’s fresh everyday and our customers love it. In fact, we get a lot of summertime visitors and tourists that love the fact we are able to offer local produce in the summer months,” Januszkiewicz added. “A couple of years ago, Dan Langridge’s lettuce was mentioned in Toronto Life magazine and people from the city were amazed to find here at No Frills.”

The store owner added that parent company Loblaws continue to support the initiative of source fresh local products when available.
