The artist John G. Lennard is a professional painter and County resident who has been exhibing his work in Canadian and international galleries for over two decases. He describes the ideas informing his painting, A Life Enjoyed, as “a little multi-dimensional.”
“There is, first, the portrait of someone who has enjoyed a full life. The second is that it was from a series of the many moods that one may have.”
“The subject is my mother, of whom I have done many drawings and paintings. She has dementia, and drawing and painting is a wonderful way to engage and spend time with her. Every painting in the series is different. The approach is to share the many moods and different ways of enjoyment someone may still have while enduring dementia.”
“I think it is a misconception that all of one’s senses disappear with the illness. I feel if one notices the subtle differences every day one can still be in tune with their life force which can be beautiful.”
“I have enjoyed my life as an artist and feel fortunate to make a living doing what I do,” says Mr. Lennard. “I have had the privilege of living and working in most of the major cultural cities, including Paris, Berlin, New York, and London to develop my craft.” He and his partner Peggy have lived in the County for five years.
