Nancy Patricia Otterway (nee Ackerman) died peacefully at home, with assistance, on Friday February 8, 2019. Born December 8, 1927 in Peterborough Ontario, Nancy had deep family roots in Prince Edward County. While on a grand tour of Europe, she met and married Joseph Otterway. They settled in Surrey, England, raised 2 daughters, Sabrina Baverstock (David) and Sherry Otterway (John Flower). They relocated to Salmon Point, in the County, in 1974. Nancy had a wealth of local knowledge and family history and was involved with Macaulay House, the archives and the historical society. She was keeper of the family history and was the glue that held them together. Following Joe’s death in 2009, Nancy assumed the roll of head of the family. She entertained her beloved nieces and many of her family members at her house on Bowery Street, for 5:00 golden hour. She held court and doled out chores with the ease of a monarch, while inspiring conversation about some grand new discovery. Nancy is missed by her granddaughters, Abbie Baverstock (Adam Byrne), Teal Baverstock (Rob Wood) and Celty Ziegler (Vince Ziegler) and her 7 and a half great grandchildren. As Nancy desired, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. Thank you to staff from the VON and Cheshire Homes. With their kind support, Nancy was able to remain in her home. To honour Nancy’s memory, donations to the Victoria Order of Nurses or Cheshire Homes, would be gratefully appreciated.
