To support its important work in the National Wildlife Area at Point Traverse, the Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory (PEPtBO) is holding its Fabulous Festive Holiday Auction online over a two-week period. 

Starting November 27 and going until December 11, this auction represents a key event for PEPtBO which must raise all the funds needed to operate the Observatory’s banding station. PEPtBO has extended its migration monitoring and reporting to a year-round activity, making revenue from the auction essential to contributing first-class data to bird conservation efforts across Canada.

“Because of the generosity of the individuals and businesses who donated wonderful items to our sale, the auction offers a great shortcut to completing your holiday shopping—and all for a good cause! PEPtBO is very grateful to them,” PEPtBO President Julie White noted. “It’s easy to bid and to pay for successful bids online. New this year, we are offering one-day pick-up points not only in Picton but also in Kingston, Ottawa, and Toronto. Gift certificates will be sent electronically to winning bidders.”

This year’s 100+ offerings include exciting nature expeditions and experiences for the whole family, one-of-a-kind crafts and gorgeous artwork, professional services, books and toys, gift baskets, yummy treats, and much more. A preview of the items appeared online as of November 20.

Unique as an asset to the County, PEPtBO plays an important role in attracting bird and nature lovers to the region. PEPtBO also provides hands-on education to the County’s young people through its NatureHood program.

As of the end of the 2022 autumn migration monitoring season, October 31, Bander-in-charge Phil Mercier, Associate Bander-in-charge Jess Daze, along with PEPtBO’s dedicated volunteers, had banded 10,805 birds with 92 species represented. September 8th saw the most action: the team handled and banded 717 birds!
