The Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) and the Picton United Church celebrated their inaugural partnership and the opening of their Adult Day Program last week. A ribbon-cutting was performed by Mayor Steve Ferguson followed by a spaghetti luncheon.
Angela Robinson, Manager of Home and Community Care with VON, said the organization “had an opportunity to partner with Picton United Church back in December of 2022. It’s a wonderful opportunity for us to work toward surveying the needs of our community members while partnering together and being able to celebrate days like today,” said Ms. Robinson.
Ms. Robinson said the Adult Day Program would provide respite for caregivers and community connection for program participants.
“It gives our clients an opportunity to socialize, participate in various activities, trivia, exercises and enjoy nutritious meals throughout the day,” commented Robinson. “It’s lovely. Any given day we have up to six or seven clients. We are open Monday through Friday.”
Diane Hadley, Chair of Property and Finance at the United Church, said “VON called the church and asked if we had any space available and we did because we’re a large church and we have a lot of space not being used by the congregation.”
“We’re involved in the community, providing space for this very important program and we’re very proud and happy to be involved in this partnership.”
Ms. Hadley added that should there be any other opportunities to develop relationships connected to community needs “we’re very open to that.”
