A Toronto-area woman is facing fraud, theft and criminal harassment charges after a Prince Edward County resident was defrauded in excess of $100,000.
Ontario Provincial Police investigators executed a search warrant in Etobicoke Sept. 28 and arrested Oraine Williamson. Ms. Williamson has been charged with Criminal harassment- threatening conduct, Theft over $5,000, Fraud over $5, 000 and Mischief to computer data.
Prince Edward OPP received a report Aug. 21, 2023 of a scam involving a fake lottery claim. The victim was advised they had won the lottery. After further discussion with the suspect, the suspect convinced the victim to provide money in a variety of forms, resulting in a loss exceeding $100,000. The suspect is believed to have attended the victim’s house to assist in the transactions.
The individual was held for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on September 29, 2023.
