The Prince Edward County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) laid multiple criminal charges over the past weekend.
• On Sept. 8, shortly after 3:00 a.m., Fire and Rescue advised police of a vehicle on fire on Thomas Street in Picton. Officers determined the vehicle had been involved in a collision and the driver had left the scene prior to police arrival. Bradley Reid, 28, from Picton, was charged with mischief, failure to comply with a probation order, careless driving, and failure to report an accident. The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Oct. 25.
• On Sept. 15 at 8:30 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on County Rd. 1. A search of the vehicle and driver led to the seizure of a quantity of suspected methamphetamine. Ryan O’Neil, 37, from Belleville, was charged with possession of a schedule one substance. The suspect was released from custody and scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Nov. 1.
• On Sept. 16 shortly after midnight, officers conducted a RIDE program on Highway 62. One driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing. Amanda Sagriff-Dunkley, 23, from Corbyville, was charged with impaired driving. She was released from custody and scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Oct. 10. Her driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.
• On Sept. 21 just before 2:30 p.m. officers conducted a traffic stop on Highway 62 for a Highway Traffic Act violation. Officers spoke to the driver of the motor vehicle and used an approved screening device. The driver was arrested and taken for further testing. Morgan Newson, 28, from Belleville, was charged with failure to comply, driving while prohibited under the criminal code, dangerous driving, and speeding. The driver was released from custody and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on October 4. The vehicle impounded for 45 days and licence suspended for 90 days.
