Summer 2023 promises to be another musical season thanks to the Prince Edward County Lion’s Club Music in the Park Series. Concerts will be on offer every Tuesday evening throughout the summer.
The lions have run the series for 14 years. Though their mandate is to serve the community, many may not know exactly what the Lions do in Prince Edward County. They help with Meals on Wheels; effective speaking contests; and “peace poster” contests in local schools. They conduct vision and hearing screenings in schools, and breakfast and reading programs at CML.
“For anybody who wants to come to the concert, enjoy the music and get up to dance, there’s no cost. We have some local business organizations sponsoring us,” explained Local Lion Club Member John Whyte.“We organize the bands. Some are local and some are just outside the County. It’s quite a selection. Some come back every year and we always try out one or two new bands. We showcase classic rock — such as The Reasons — folk, blues, jazz funk, hip hop, Celtic and contemporary music.”
Sponsors include Wellington on the Lake Residents’ Association, Wellington Pharmacy, St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, the Huff Family and Andrew & Emily’s No Frill’s in Picton.
“Come out, have fun, support the Prince Edward County Lion’s Club and enjoy the music,” said Whyte.
The concerts will take place from June 13th until September 10th at the park on Wellington Main Street, except for the concert on August 8th, which features Seventh Town, a Folk and Celtic band playing at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Picton.
Throughout June and July concerts run from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. After that they run from 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. All concerts will take place on Tuesday evenings, except for Sunday, August 6th and Sunday, September 10th, 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.
