The unofficial end of summer was a busy one for members of the Prince Edward County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police.
From Fri., Aug., 30, 2019 through to Mon., Sept., 2, 2019 officers responded to 122 calls for service.
These calls were generated by seven motor vehicle collisions, two sexual assaults, two domestics, five thefts, five family disputes, 25 dropped 911 calls, two marine calls, one impaired operation and one break and enter.
Prince Edward OPP officers also upheld their commitment to the OPP’s Labour Day Weekend Distracted Driving Campaign where 46 speeding, 19 seat belt, 16 other Highway Traffic Act offences, nine hazardous moving violation and six distracted driving charges were issued. Persons charged were issued Provincial Offence Notices for their respective offences.
On Fri., 30 at about 1:00 p.m., officers conducting static traffic enforcement for the Distracted Driving campaign stopped a vehicle for a significantly damaged windshield infraction. As a result of the traffic stop, the officers found a male passenger was wanted in another police jurisdiction and a female passenger was in breach of her court-ordered release conditions. The female driver was not charged with an offence and warned to fix her windshield.
