A popular swimming spot in Prince Edward County is the lone beach in the Quinte region unsafe for swimming due to elevated levels of E.coli bacteria
Hastings Prince Edward Public Health (HPEPH) monitors the quality of beach water at designated public beaches within Prince Edward and Hastings Counties. Beach water quality is monitored by the collection and analyses of water samples. Samples are analyzed at a public health laboratory for the presence of E.coli bacteria.
When E. coli bacteria levels exceed the provincial standard, the beach is considered unsafe for swimming, and a warning notice is issued by HPEPH.
Of the 18 public beaches monitored by HPEPH, Wellington Beach is the only beach posted as unsafe as of June 26.
