The Wellington Dukes (24-11-1) rang in the new year in style, picking up a road win in Lindsay in their first action of 2025.
The Muskies were no match for the visiting anglers from Wellington on Friday January 3, as the locals reeled in the Fish on the ice of the Lindsay Recreational Complex by a 5-3 score.
Wellington opened the scoring in the first when defender Logan Sitliani sniped an unassisted tally at the 8:19 mark.
Up one after one, Wellington continued on its course to the Lindsay net and super rookie Ethan Murray continued his torrid scoring pace, rifling home his 17th of the season on the power play to make it a 2-0 spread for the visitors. Mr. Murray, who is bound to garner OHL attention this summer, has a dozen goals in his last 16 OJHL games.
Lindsay solved Wellington just under a minute after Mr. Murray’s man advantage marker with one of their own as Ajay Rai put the Muskies on the board at 5:58 at the second.
Up 2-1 going into the third, Wellington put the game out of hand with three straight in the third. Mr. Murray once again played trigger man on the power play while Sacha Trudel and Ryan Schaap also lit the lamp to build a 5-1 lead.
Lindsay’s Nathan Enwright and Nole Faulkner both scored in the 17th minute of the third period to make the result a little closer than the game actually was. Mr. Brown had 26 stops in the win.
Wellington peppered Lindsay’s Jason Tremblay with 41 volleys.
The 4th place Dukes are idle Friday night before travelling to Stoufville on Saturday for a four point match up with the 5th place Spirit.
Wellington is back home on Wednesday, January 15 when they host Lindsay.
The Dukes bizarre 2024-25 home schedule continues with a home game Thursday, January 21 against the Toronto Jr. Canadiens before they finally host a Friday night contest 24 hours later against visiting North York. That game marks Wellington’s first Friday night home game since December 13 2024, a total of six weeks between regular home nights.
