Prince Edward OPP say there is no danger to the public after a tense, firearms-related scene in Picton’s east end on Victoria Day.
Residents of the block between Church Street and the Pineridge Drive subdivision were under a shelter-in-place order in the early morning hours of May 20 — although most slept through the public safety warning.
A person was transported to hospital from a house on Union Street shortly after 2 a.m. Monday morning with serious but non-life-threatening injuries after a gun was fired.
The OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit, Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit conducted an extensive search of the area looking for a suspect, who still has not been found.
The shelter-in-place order was lifted sometime after 7 a.m. and OPP Communications Officer Bill Dickson confirmed the search for the suspect came up empty.
OPP believe this was not a random incident and that there was no risk to the general public.
The OPP’s Forensic Identification Unit was on scene through most of Monday collecting crime scene data and there was a heavy police presence in the area until 6:30 p.m.
Police continues to investigate this incident and are asking anyone with information, or who has potentially relevant doorbell or dashcam videos, to call Prince Edward OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS).
