Prince Edward Community Care has been involved in the Canada Revenue Agency “Community Volunteer Income Tax Program” for 42 years. We have volunteers that are all ready for yet another season of completing income tax returns for seniors who live in Prince Edward County. This is a free program for seniors 60+ who meet the eligibility criteria of Canada Revenue Agency. We have assembled a full team of volunteers for this tax season and we are able to take on any and all returns for eligible seniors.
Free tax clinics make it easier for people with a modest income to access important benefits and credits that can help them with the rising cost of living. CRA reports that ,so far in 2023, more than 3,400 community partners and 15,700 volunteers have helped more than 730,000 people complete their tax returns, free of charge. Despite these remarkable efforts, CRA states that there are still thousands of people across the country who don’t do their taxes each year, which means they are missing out on benefit and credit payments.
Community Care volunteers have been fully screened and then trained by Canada Revenue Agency to complete Income Tax Returns for eligible clients. If you are a senior 60+ whose single income is $35,000 or lower or a couple whose household income is $45,000 or lower, you may be eligible for help through this program.
The first step is for seniors to call the office and discuss eligibility with staff and staff will explain the procedures in place.
Volunteers do not complete income tax and benefit returns for: deceased persons, bankrupt individuals; for those with more than $1000 of investment income; for individuals with capital gains/losses; or for people with business or rental income and expenses.
Seniors can call Community Care at 613-476-7493 about getting their Income Tax done for free. Others who meet the CRA criteria can contact the Prince Edward Learning Centre at 613-476-1811 for assistance with Income Tax preparation.
