The philanthropic legacy of Peter and Catharine Huff is reaching further in difficult times. The Huff Family Fund, which has already invested over 500k in Prince Edward County since 2018, doubled its grants this year to 250k, up from 125k in previous rounds.

The fund offers matching grants: amounts must be matched by either dollars or volunteer time, increasing the impact of the funding.

Administered through the County Foundation, the fund targeted programs for children and young people, education, literacy and the arts, and food insecurity, among a wide range of priorities.

The County Stage Company, Baxter Arts, the Arts Council, Reaching for Rainbows, The Children’s Foundation, the County Museums, food pantries, and Alternatives for Women were among recipients.

“Working with The County Foundation to facilitate these grants is one of the best decisions we have
made as donors to increase impact in our community. Each year we are amazed by the breadth of projects and services these grants support,” said Fund founders Lanny and Catharine Huff.

“The 2023 Huff Family Fund grants totalling $250k will benefit 20 local organizations who make a difference in our community across many vital sectors,” County Foundation Executive Director Dominique Jones said. “The Huffs are outstanding supporters of a broad range of community programming and supports. They are responding to increased needs in the County and have made the decision to increase the annual grant from $125,000 to $250,000. I look forward to seeing these projects come to fruition over the next year and congratulate all of the recipients.”
